Debut "Dub Wave" from a new transatlantic operating room - where bass will be impressively back in the new wave…!
Coming up as a studio musician, replaying classic tracks and working with New York and Bay Area hip hop and reggae crews, RADIO77's DJ Joey Radio rolled this into collaborations and studio work with artists such as Damian Marley, Gorillaz, Jack Johnson, Deltron 3030 just to name a few!
His new project RADIO77 is a new “DubWave” group from New York City with the unlikely but elegant union of mixing future dub styles with sweet roots vocal harmony and 80s new wave influences.
The EP “Future Wave Bass” will be released on the world-renowned Echo Beach label from Germany and features Dubmatix (JUNO Award prize winner from March 2019 for his Overdubbed album with SLY & ROBBIE) mixing, production skills, and dub versions.
With a career spanning over 25 years in various incarnations as artist, band member, writer, DJ, producer and more - singer DJ “Joey RAD1O” got his start growing up in downtown New York City singing with his mom’s rock and soul records, playing guitar in punk rock bands, collecting records and eventually crafting meticulous beats on his mpc3000!
“The influences and inspiration for the RADIO77 sound all come out of my years in downtown NYC. We had everything from all over the world in just a couple blocks - it was a neighborhood culture, but based on influences from all over the World ”
The debut EP "FUTURE WAVE BASS" is an impressive and beautifully layered multi-genre-fusion of block party bass, Latin and Jamaican Sound System Culture leanings with a smashing New Wave edge and sweet roots vocals.
Pushing the boundaries of these genres into DubWave while maintaining the core foundation of Jamaican reggae and dub but in future wise style – a big bang with cover version(s) of a famous NEW WAVE classic : THE POLICE and "Walking On The Moon“ but also "Love Me Forever“ (Linval Thompson), the classic 50's DooWop hit "I Only Have Eyes For You" by the Flamingos and "Tonight“ (Bowie/Iggy Pop) are astonishing epics !
