On 20th of November 1959, George Harrison went into Hessy’s music shop in Liverpool and took out a hire-purchase agreement on a Futurama electric guitar. This guitar would become George’s workhorse during the crazy Hamburg era that followed, and you can hear it on songs such as ‘ain't she sweet’ recorded at the infamous Hamburg sessions for Polydor in June of 1961.
In 1964, George gave the Futurama to Beat Instrumental magazine as a reader’s competition prize. The winner opted to take cash instead and the guitar has resided with the editor, unplayed, ever since.
To play tribute to George's musical genius, the incredible Seven Decades band will be performing live with this iconic guitar for the first time in 57 years! Playing songs that span George’s career from his early influences to his solo work, his time with Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, and his deep love of Indian music and spirituality - this is a performance you do not want to miss.
